Guiseley Academy avenged a recent 5-4 loss to FC Halifax Town when they hosted them at Nethermoor on Wednesday and gained a comfortable 4-2 win, writes Rachel O’Connor.
After a period of testing each other out third placed Halifax took the lead with a powerful 21st minute shot which beat ‘keeper Spencer Booth. This lead was wiped out on 40 minutes when Derren Boyle earned a penalty which he stepped up to fire past the Halifax ‘keeper.
Before the break Zac Rushworth fired over when seeking to put Guiseley ahead in a half in which they had started to dominate with Town having just the one shot on goal, the one from which they scored.
Just a minute into the second-half Guiseley went ahead when Dan Fotherby’s deflected shot evaded the ‘keeper. Rushworth almost stole a loose ball from the ‘keeper but was adjudged to have fouled him and received a harsh yellow card.
Guiseley were not to be thwarted though and Emre Can took Guiseley’s tally to three on 60 minutes. Boyle almost made it four but his powerful shot hit the post and Can fired his effort over the bar before being replaced by Wil Temple.
In the 82nd minute Guiseley made a further substitution when Ryan Eli replaced Will Buttle. Rushworth sealed the 4-2 win with a fine 86th minute goal.
Guiseley: Spencer Booth; Lucas Alexander, Lawrence Ford, Ronny Skelton, Will Buttle; Dan Fotherby, Ibrahim Origbaajo, Bailey Thompson, Emre Can; Derren Boyle, Zac Rushworth. Subs: Wil Temple, Ryan Eli.
Guiseley have moved up to sixth place in the National League U-19 Academy North League with 20 points from 12 games, six of which they have won with two draws and four losses. Fifth placed Hartlepool are also on 20 points but have played two games more than Guiseley.
