HISTON 2
GUISELEY 2
By David Crane
A late double from substitute James Walshaw earned Guiseley a deserved point at Histon. Walshaw came on a minute after the Stutes had gone two up on 54 minutes, and was soon terrorising their defence. He unleashed a fine left-foot shot inside the box on 71 minutes, and nine minutes later he converted a penalty that he earned after a nudge from Remy Clerima. The Lions had missed the chance to take the lead when Lee Ellington’s 17th-minute spot kick was comfortably saved by Jorg Stadelman.
The Stutes took the lead on 38 minutes when the live1y Dan Holman collected a Matt Breeze through baII, before weaving his way through Guiseley’s defence and finishing at the near post. Histon made it two when Lewis Taaffe’s right-wing cross was met by a clinical side-foot finish from Holman.
Stutes boss David Livermore said: “We didn’t deserve to win. Guiseley played some fantastic football and they are a team we aspire to be like. “They deserve credit for the game changing subs and it’s a positive we didn’t lose,” he added. Guiseley boss Steve Kittrick commented: “Histon deserved to be in front. We didn’t take our chances and defended poorly for their goals, but we looked a far better side after the changes and it’s a good point.”
