The rain may be affecting games but it isn’t affecting the spirits of the women’s squad as Guiseley Vixens prepare to travel to Chester-le-Street this Sunday.
Weather and other disruptions have delayed the league campaign for 2017 but Guiseley are hoping they can finally kick on and push for promotion from THE FAWPL Division One.
The Vixens look to carry on their form from before the New Year where they picked up 28 from a possible 30 points.
Chester-le-Street will be tough task however, losing only one league game at home all season and they come into the game off the back of a three game winning streak.
“We’ve not had a league game for so long and we all just want to get back into the rhythm of it” captain Alarna Fuller said.
“We’ve got new players who have now had time to settle into the squad and I feel we are as strong as ever, we just need to go out and do what we know we can do.”
Centre-back Liv Da Costa returns from injury for the game and there are potential debuts for Josephine Hewson, Maria Sangra and Debs Hastings.
Manager Kyle O’Reilly voiced his thoughts on the trip saying: “Chester le Street are notoriously tough and well-organised and that’s evident by their form of late and backed up by some of their results.
“They’ve done us a favour by taking points off our title rivals and have even picked up points when they’ve had a depleted squad, so we are anticipating a real tough fixture.
“The lack of games has everyone at the club frustrated. We live for match days and we just want to get out there, let off some steam and continue progressing the club.”
The gap in fixtures has allowed the squad time to group together and welcome the new additions.
O’Reilly said: “The new players are looking good, they’ve been training with us consistently and look like they are understanding what’s required of them so fingers crossed it translates into a competitive fixture.”
