Guiseley have signed their third player of the window in the form of last season’s FAWPL Northern Division One top scorer, Nikki Berko.
Last season, Berko managed to defy the odds when she scored an incredible 30 goals in 25 games for a struggling Blackpool Wren Rovers side, eventually finishing above Guiseley forward Sarah Danby to claim the golden boot.
Her goal record goes way beyond however, netting an unbelievable 400 goals in just nine seasons for Blackpool.
The former Everton, Blackburn and Manchester City striker was no stranger to Guiseley’s defenders last season and there’s no doubt they will be happy to see Berko team up with them this time round.
She gave the Vixens back line the run around when the two sides met a few months ago, a game which saw Berko net two superb goals in a game that would eventually proclaim Guiseley as champions!
On the move, she said: “I’m really excited to join this ambitious club and I’m excited to challenge myself and be part of the ‘project’.
Manager Glen Preston went on record as saying: “It’s a massive coup for us. We’ve had to fend off interest from some of the biggest clubs in the north of England to land her signature this summer.
“Berko is a wonderful talent and her record in a side that respectfully really struggled last season shows just how good she is! She’s got that power and bullishness you need to mix it up with the best of them but then has incredible feet and deception to seamlessly glide past players effortlessly.”
He finished by saying: “She’s the player we wanted and given the tough time we’ve had so far this summer after losing two of our best players, I think this will give everyone at the club a massive lift.”
