Vixens return to winning ways

Guiseley Vixens 3 – 1 Brighouse Town

Keegan Lambert (26)          Jodie Redgrave (28)
Liv Thackeray (65)
Emily Scott (89)

Guiseley returned to winning form after a confident 3-1 win over rivals Brighouse Town which saw the Vixens regain top spot.

The goals started in the 26th minute when a move down the touchline resulted in Lauren Griffiths crossing the ball into Keegan Lambert who smartly placed the ball under keeper Steph Jones.

Brighouse managed to bring it level minutes later when Jodie Redgrave tried her luck from distance and the resulting effort whistled past Guiseley keeper Beth Seasman, a goal which seemed to come against the run of play.

Just over the hour mark, Guiseley managed to restore their lead with a fast paced attack. Lambert dribbled the ball into the box before smartly passing across to Liv Thackeray who was left wide open. Thackeray finessed the ball left footed into the top corner, out of the goalkeeper’s reach.

The game was killed off on the 90-minute mark when Emily Scott spotted the keeper off her line and had a go from 30 yards with resulting effort finding its way into the back of the net, narrowly missing the crossbar.

Lambert was forced off the pitch through injury after a nasty tackle on the halfway line but in more positive news there was a welcomed return for Natalie Brace who came on for the last half hour after returning from injury.

Co-manager Glen Preston had his say on the game:

“I think we totally deserved the win today. In the second half we played some fantastic football. The first half was a little bit cagey as you would expect in a derby game but they competed really well in the middle of the pitch (Brighouse) they really put themselves about.

“As they game got on I felt we really started to take control and the players which came on in the second half made a really big impact and in the end we played a superb second half performance which got us the result in the end.”

The Vixens are now one point ahead of second place Chorley who have a game in hand and who Guiseley play next on the 2nd October.
