On Sunday Guiseley AFC Vixens beat Sheffield United 2-0 and took over the position of league leaders from Liverpool Feds who were without a fixture.
In truth this was a disappointing performance from Guiseley Vixens although great credit has to be given to Sheffield United who prevented Guiseley from getting into their passing game and could have easily gone away from Nethermoor with a point.
In a scrappy first half Guiseley created a few half chances before opening the scoring after in the 21st minute when Becky Kendell latched onto a through-ball from Charlie Blythe and prodded the ball past the Sheffield United goalkeeper.
Guiseley found it difficult to break down a stubborn and organised Sheffield United team and half-time arrived with the home team frustrated at being unable to score further goals.
The second half started in the same manner as the first half until the introduction of substitute Kerrie Zserdicky when the tempo of the game increased dramatically and more chances were created.
As the game moved into a nervous last 10 minutes a cross from Emma White was met on the half volley by Becky Kendell who scored her second goal of the game and wrapped up the points.
Whilst on paper this goes down as 3 points gained and a valuable clean sheet Guiseley will know that future performances will need to improve if the position as league leaders is to be maintained.
