We’re delighted to announce the signing of experienced central defender Spencer Harris.
Defender Spencer Harris returns to Guiseley AFC having what he terms ‘unfinished business at Nethermoor’, writes Rachel O’Connor.
After enjoying a league and West Riding County Cup double with Liversedge last season Harris is looking to push on with The Lions and help them seek an immediate return to the Vanarama National League North.
The 31 year-old from Sowerby Bridge said: “I don’t think that the Guiseley fans really got to see what I have to offer last time I was here back in 2013/14. I only figured in about 10 games and mostly from the bench so I don’t think that they saw the best of me.”
Harris started his career at Huddersfield Town, being there from the age of five until 19. He signed his first pro contract with the Terriers and on release he went to play in Australia spending three years with Perth Balcatta FC.
His room mate whilst there was Craig Bentham, who was assistant to new Guiseley Assistant Manager Danny Forrest at Silsden.
“That is the closest I come to having a connection with Danny Forrest but of course I was aware of him as a player at Bradford City and manager at Silsden,” said Harris.
“I am looking forward to working with him and of course I have played with Danny Ellis before and I look forward to linking up with him again. I want to be successful and I like winning things. My ambition for next season is for us to get promoted and I feel that the management team are building a side to do that,” said Harris.
He added: “As a defender I pride myself in stopping goals and I was very happy that we kept 20 clean sheets at Liversedge last season. I know it is a step up this season but I will be looking to keep at least ten clean sheets.”
Harris brings plenty of experience to Guiseley as the centre-back, who has played much of his career in midfield, has also played for Buxton, Boston United, Farsley Celtic, Bradford (Park Avenue), Hyde, Shaw Lane and Matlock.
The man who makes ambulances for a job has two children, a boy and a girl, and he loves watching his son, aged 8, play football. He also enjoys cricket having played for Halifax League side Mytholmroyd for many years.
