Mark Bower’s Guiseley return to Nethermoor for the visit of Southport on Tuesday, having extended their unbeaten run to five games at Dover Athletic.
The Lions claimed a hard-earned point in their goalless draw against Dover on Saturday and have not tasted defeat in the Vanarama National League since the 2-0 reversal against Gateshead.
Paul Carden’s Southport drew 2-2 with FC Halifax Town at The Shay and come into Tuesday’s fixture 22nd in the league with seven points from 11 games.
Our midweek visitors boast plenty of quality and experience within their squad – notably former Bradford City captain Gary Jones – and Bower is hopeful his side can continue to pick up points approaching the quarter mark of the season.
“There are no easy games at all in this league, it’s just so competitive,” Bower said.
“It’s relentless and there’s no game where you think ‘maybe we can rotate things a little bit’.
“We’ve got to go out there and put in the same work rate we did against Dover, especially in the second half but try and get on the ball a bit more.
“In possession of the ball I thought we gave it away a little bit too cheaply, we weren’t always brave enough to get on the ball and pass it.
“But credit to [Dover], they shut us down. When they do that, you’ve got to stick your bodies on the line and the lads did that.
“It was certainly a relieved bus on the way home and it extends that unbeaten run to five games.”
The club would like to remind those driving to the game of the need to park legally and sensibly. We advise spectators park in the free car park on Netherfield Road.
