2016 started with a bang and a tough trip to Grimsby Town for the Lions who had lost their last three Vanarama National League games.
However after a poor showing at Gateshead in the last match Guiseley showed some fighting spirit in a 1-1 draw at Blundell Park, Ollie Norburn brilliantly opened the scoring in the 40th minute, it was the first time the Mariners had conceded in 484 minutes.
After a stubborn performance from the Lions which Grimsby found hard to break down they forced an equaliser in the 72nd minute as Podraig Amond headed home from close range.
Another tough match was on the horizon the week after with Forest Green Rovers set to visit Nethermoor, however the match was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
A return to FA Trophy action followed with a trip to Dulwich Hamlet and the road to Wembley continued with a nervy 2-1 win for Guiseley.
James Hurst opened the scoring with a fantastic volley in the 13th minute sending the visiting supporters into raptures, Anthony Dudley’s deflected effort doubled the lead 13 minutes later seeing the forward score in his second debut after a return from Bury.
Adam Boyes looked to put the game to bed but he saw two shots in two minutes kept out by Dulwich who then scored an equaliser through Mitchell Nelson just before half-time.
After a tight second half which saw Will Hatfield and Gavin Rothery go close to extending the Lions’ lead Dulwich pushed for an equaliser in added time and saw a header strike the bar and post, it wasn’t enough for the hosts and the visitors marched on with a trip to Dover in the next round.
A return to league action followed with a trip to relegation threatened Kidderminster Harriers who had former Lion Ben Whitfield within their ranks following a loan move from AFC Bournemouth.
Adam Boyes looked to have scored the first goal of the match but the assistant referee ruled the strike out for offside after the number 9 was played in by Anthony Dudley.
The Harriers saw the match as a must win if they were to pull themselves out of the relegation zone but Liam Dickinson’s strike just a minute after coming on saw the visitors return with all three points.
The last game of the month was another away trip this time Lincoln City were the hosts at Sincil Bank.
Chris Bush’s header after 26 minutes was enough for the Imps to secure a first win in 11 Vanarama National League matches.
Although Guiseley thought they had scored a well-deserved equaliser after a quickly taken free kick by Nicky Boshell found Adam Boyes whose deft finish beat the Lincoln keeper but the flag was raised for offside seeing Boyes have two goals ruled out in two games for what looked like harsh decisions.
