Guiseley AFC Ladies 5 – 2 Castleford White Rose Ladies
In the first home game of the season Guiseley AFC entertained Castleford White Rose who came to Nethermoor on the back of an excellent victory over Hull City the previous week.
Guiseley made a dream start to the game when within the first 5 minutes the Castleford goalkeeper could only parry a strong shot and Charlotte Proud was first to react and scored from an acute angle.
Castleford responded well and showed they were capable of creating chances themselves before a sweeping move down the Castleford left saw a pinpoint cross converted by Castleford top scorer Aimi Beresford to level the scores.
From that point on Guiseley took control of the game with the midfield pressing Castleford and denying them any chance to create further opportunities.
As Guiseley became more and more dominant they started to create chances for the forward pairing of Charlotte Proud and Amy Parker, with Parker being rewarded with 2 goals both struck from the edge of the penalty area.
As half time approached Julie Richardson struck the post from a good chance before again being in the right place to bundle the ball into the Castleford goal after a corner and give Guiseley a comfortable 4-1 half time lead.
The mood at half time was a determination to press on and not allow Castleford to come back into the game and shortly after the restart Michelle Walsh made a strong forward run and after swapping passes with a team-mate she fired an unstoppable shot low into the corner of the goal to increase the lead to 5-1.
From that point on the result was never going to be in doubt and despite a late consolation goal from Castleford’s Sarah Cairns Guiseley remained in complete control.
Overall this was a very powerful and dominant performance from Guiseley and promises much for the rest of the season.
