The club are delighted to confirm that young winger Luke Porritt has agreed a new one-year contract with the club.
Porritt has impressed on appearances for the first team, having been one of the standout players during the first few years of the club’s Academy.
The 19-year-old spent time on loan at neighbours Farsley Celtic last season, with Guiseley Academy manager Dave Currie eager to see more young players make the step up.
“I am delighted for Pozz. He has been with us since 16-years-old and he has been a pleasure to work with,” Currie said.
“It proves to players in our Academy system that Mark Bower will give them the opportunity if he thinks they are good enough.”
The Academy will, this season, see a new cohort of players come in at the under-17 age group, joining the lads who are staying on with us for a new campaign.
Together, those squads will represent the club in the Football Conference Youth Alliance as well as the newly-formed Yorkshire Elite under-21’s league and the British Colleges, English Schools and FA Youth Cups.
“The majority of our 18 year olds have been loaned out to other non-league clubs to give them experience of playing in senior men’s football,” Currie added.
“The players are more than happy to do this as they know that it will play a big part in their progression at Guiseley. Pozz did this at Farsley and, on the back of that and some excellent academy and first team performances, he has secured a contract.”
In its early years, the Academy has already enjoyed great success with Ben Whitfield currently preparing for the Premier League season at AFC Bournemouth while goalkeeper Tom Stewart is at Morecambe.
Former captain Elliot Scott is playing at Brighouse Town while Dane Hodgson is at Athersley Recreation and Ashley Tatler plays for IAFE and Harrogate Railway.
