Lepton Highlanders 0 – 2 Guiseley AFC Ladies
A goal in each half from Amy Parker extended Guiseley AFC Ladies’ lead at the top of the table although other clubs still have games in hand.
On a small pitch with an uneven surface it was difficult to play attractive passing football but Guiseley ground out a win without really getting out of second gear and it was good to achieve a first clean sheet of the season.
The game started with both teams finding it hard to create space to play but forward Amy Parker burst past her opponent and although the Lepton goalkeeper saved her first effort she was able to convert the rebound and give Guiseley a 0-1 lead.
The rest of the first half continued with Guiseley in control but unable to convert any of the chances created and half-time arrived with no further addition to the score.
Guiseley made two enforced substitutions in the first half as both Kerrie Zserdicky and Charlotte Proud were injured and unable to continue.
The second half started in much the same way as the first finished and Guiseley created several chances, one of which was converted by Amy Parker whose headed attempt clipped the underside of the bar on the way into the goal.
With a 2-0 lead and now totally controlling the game it seemed only a matter of time until further goals arrived but a combination of resolute Lepton defending, the Lepton goalpost and wayward Guiseley finishing meant there were no further goals.
Overall this was a comfortable win but Guiseley will know they will require more ruthless finishing if they are to stay at the top of the table.
