Nethermoor To Host Wharfedale FA Cup Finals

Guiseley AFC’s Nethermoor Park ground will again play host to the two Wharfedale FA cup finals this Sunday, writes Rachel O’Connor.

Guiseley Academy will contest the George Pickersgill Removals sponsored Wharfedale Challenge Cup final, battling Otley Town for the 120 year-old trophy.

The game will kick-off at Nethermoor at 2:30pm on Sunday 19th April. In this open age competition Dave Currie’s U19 side of mainly 16 and 17 year-olds has beaten three men’s teams on the way to the final.

They disposed of Burley Trojans of the Craven League 2-1, Pool of the West Yorkshire League 13-1 and Horsforth St Margaret’s Seconds of the Yorkshire Amateur League 4-2.

The youngsters now carry the club name in this competition following the first team and Reserves, who both had success recording 21 trophy wins between them, the last by the Reserves in 2005-06. Guiseley AFC, as well as winning the trophy more times than any other club, also hold the record for most successive wins with eight.

The Academy side plays in the National League U19 Alliance North. To reach the final Otley Town had a bye in the first round after trophy holders Ilkley Town withdrew from the competition.

They then defeated fellow West Yorkshire League side Bramhope 3-2 and had a 4-1 win over Rawdon Old Boys in the semi-finals.

On the morning of 19th April Guiseley will host the Wilf Chatwin U16 Junior Cup final in which Guiseley Juniors U16 Whites will play Ilkley Town Juniors U15 Bears with a 10:30am kick-off.

The Guiseley side were beaten finalists as Under-15s last season when they lost to the then Guiseley U16 Whites.

At both the finals the admission price will be £4 for adults; £2 concessions and U12s free. Payment will be by cash or card. Food and drink outlets will be open.
