What They’re Saying

Ahead of the game Colin Robertson caught up with Gordon Rayner, the former Lions boss was the first to lead the club to the first round of the Emirates FA Cup.

Team News

Jack Emmett returned to the side for Tuesday night’s win over Leek Town after recovering from illness.

Harrison Hopper did miss out through illness though but hopefully he will be ok for our Emirates FA Cup first round clash.

Adam Lund, Aaron Martin and Jay Rollins are all edging closer to full fitness and with the Lions able to name nine substitutes for Saturday’s game the trio could feature in the matchday squad.

The Opposition

Sutton United saw off Truro last month in the final qualifying round of the Emirates FA Cup, Emmanuel Osadebe’s 32nd minute strike at Gander Green Lane was enough to book the U’s place in the first round.

The full time Enterprise National League side sit 11th in non league’s top tier with 24 points from 16 games, it is their third season back in non league after five campaigns in League 2.

Current boss Chris Agutter joined the club just over a year ago and led them to a 19th placed finish at the end of the 2025/26 campaign.

The U’s were winless on the road in five games before Saturday’s trip to Worthing which resulted in a 3-0 victory.

11 of their 24 points have come on the road which is the 12th best record in the league.

Sutton also played on Tuesday night drawing 0-0 with Southampton U21s in the National League Cup, the U’s came out on top in the shootout winning 3-1.

Saturday’s trip to Nethermoor marks Sutton’s first away tie in five Emirates FA Cup games, their last was a 3-1 defeat at Plymouth Argyle in the third round in 2024.

Previous Meetings

Saturday will be the fifth meeting between the two sides with Sutton coming out on top on three occasions, it is the first time we have faced each other since 2018.

The Lions’ only victory came on 14th February 2017 when John Rooney struck an injury time winner on his debut for the club.
