It can be a difficult challenge for any fan trying to see their team away from home but a group of Rotherham-based football-mad friends are going one step further, hoping to visit all 92 football league grounds in just 92 hours to raise money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association… and be back in Rotherham in time to see The Millers kick off on Saturday afternoon!

The New York New York 92, which has been organised by passionate football fan Stuart Burns, will see the attempt take place between Tuesday 25th epic four day journey Stuart along with a group of friends will travel day and night, covering thousands of miles along the way as well as hoping to collect memorabilia from the 92 league clubs.

The challenge was inspired by Stuart’s brother, Stephen, who was diagnosed aged 31 with Motor Neurone Disease in 2012. Following the completion of the challenge, the group are also hosting a special fundraising dinner after the event, which will see the memorabilia auctioned off and the proceeds donated to the MND Association.

So far, the team have been working to plan their route and have received a lot of support for the challenge from a number of clubs across the country but are also hoping that local businesses can come forward to help by sponsoring

Special thanks so far go to AFP Van Hire & Sales who have donated a free minibus to the team for the challenge, and local design studio Pink Polar who have created a promotional banner.

Stuart Burns said: “My brother has always been a keen footballer. As children all we seemed to do was play football. The friends that we played with at the bottom of our garden turned into school teams, college teams, and Sunday league teams.

As a group of friends, we wanted to do something for him, or more accurately, for the people that now help him to live as good a life as possible and the idea for the challenge was born. He has always been a passionate Rotherham United fan and followed them avidly for many years, so a football theme made perfect sense.

We’ve already received a lot of support for the challenge, but with lots of planning ahead of us, we’d love to hear from anyone that wants to help us, no matter how great or small the contribution is.”

Motor Neurone Disease is a rapidly progressive and fatal disease. It can affect any adult at any time and attacks the motor neurones that send messages from the brain to the muscles, leaving people unable to walk, talk or feed.

The cause of the disease is unknown and there is no known cure. Around 5,000 people in the UK have MND at any one time, with half of people with the disease dying within 14 months of diagnosis. It kills five people every day in the

The MND Association is the only charity in England, Wales and Northern Ireland funding and promoting research into the disease to work towards a world free of MND, while helping people with MND secure the care and support they desperately need.

Notable sufferers of Motor Neurone Disease have included: Former England manager Don Revie, South African Rugby Union player Joost Van Der Westhuizen, The Pink Panther actor David Niven, and Professor Stephen
