Having gone behind to a debatable early strike Guiseley finally managed to find the net three times without reply in the second half having spurned a host of chances in the first period.
Starting strongly, Gavin Rothery put an effort just over the bar before a shot from a home forward seemed to hit the stanchion and rebound out but as Wakefield players celebrated the referee signalled the goal and a restart.
The Lions replied with James Burgess having a shot blocked on the line and Jack Rea shooting over with only the keeper to beat. Burgess was again denied by a posse of bodies in the six yard box and Rothery brought a good save from the keeper before Wayne Brooksby got in front of the custodian only to see his header go inches over.
Rea had chance to make amends just before the break when he made progress down the right channel but with only the keeper to beat he chose to pass to Burgess and the chance was lost.
On the restart Brooksby hit the foot of the post from twenty yards out and, just as it looked as though the Lions wouldn’t ever find the net, a handball in the area gave Rothery the chance to open the visitors’ account from the resulting spot kick. Shortly afterwards the same player cut inside a couple of defenders just inside the area to deliver a trademark curling shot wide of the keeper for the second.
Phil Marsh wrapped up the scoring near the end when he latched onto a loose ball at the far post following a goalmouth melee to produce a final score that reflected the Lions’ second half dominance.
