Guiseley went down to their first defeat of the season to a Gainsborough side who were able to stifle the Lions successfully throughout.
With the home side unable to find a way through the massed defence and playing one too many wayward passes, the visitors took full advantage to score two before the break and, even though Andy Holdsworth pulled one back halfway through the second half, Connor Higginson restored Trinity’s two goal cushion six minutes later.
However, it could all have been so different before Tom Davie beat Steven Drench from twenty yards out on 27 minutes as first Jake Lawlor side-footed a shot over.
Adam Boyes was just crowded out by Josh Lacey and Charlie Binns, before Dominic Roma nearly skewed a clearance into his own net while Danny Boshell’s piledriver from twenty five yards left Mike Emery rooted to the spot only to cannon back off the upright.
Curtis Bateson doubled the visitors’ advantage on 39 minutes taking Ciaran Toner’s defence splitting pass before lifting the ball over the onrushing Drench.
Despite a bright start to the second half, the Lions laboured against a nine-man defence and it was left to skipper Holdsworth to show the way as he charged forward and took a return pass before sidestepping his marker to beat Emery from twelve yards.
The goal lifted the Lions briefly but slack marking let in Davie whose cross was slotted home by Higginson at the far post.
Despite Boyes and substitutes Oli Johnson and Danny Forrest going close, Trinity held out for an unlikely victory.
Thoughts of Mark Bower and Danny Forrest on todays defeat.
