Guiseley eventually prevailed against a Harrogate side who seemed intent on stopping the Lions playing, a situation that was not helped by the official in the middle seemingly happy to leave the major decisions to his two assistants.
Will Turl gave the visitors the lead just before the break when left unmarked to convert a corner with a well-directed header.
This was after the home side had lost playmaker Danny Boshell to injury on 34 minutes, but they should have gone ahead moments before Town took the lead when Lee Ellington headed Joe O’Neill’s cross back across the six yard box only for Jason Price to fail to connect with the ball from four yards out.
Price then put in a telling cross that Simon Baldry nearly got on the end of, but it was the latter’s header back into the mix early in the second half that provided the opportunity for Price to grab his first goal for the club by slotting home from close range.
The debutant scorer was replaced by James Walshaw on 64 minutes but the prolific striker got very little change out of full back Andrew Burns or, it has to be said, very little protection from referee Mr England.
Mark Cook did well to keep out O’Neill’s header, saving at the foot of the post, and Steven Drench came to his side’s rescue by denying Chib Chilaka before Simon Ainge drove home a winner from twenty yards that might have taken a slight deflection on 83 minutes.
