Lions prepare for local derby

Guiseley will be looking to build on their dramatic 4-4 draw against Woking by claiming three points against local neighbours FC Halifax Town at Nethermoor on Tuesday.

The last league encounter between the two sides was the Lions’ semi-final play-off defeat of the 2012-13 season and since then Neil Aspin’s Halifax have become an established National League side with two top-half finishes in as many seasons.

However, after a summer of transition they sit 22nd in the table, five points below the Lions, heading into Tuesday’s clash, with boss Mark Bower keen to stress the importance of collecting three points after a run of three games without defeat.

“I said to the lads to target these two home games (Halifax and Woking) and go through them unbeaten and get a minimum of 4 points on the board. We’ve got to start better than we did on Saturday and put them under pressure,” he said.

“It’s an old cliche but the form book goes out of the window in a local derby, they will see this as an opportunity to get their season going. There will be a real tempo to the game, some good quality on show and I’m sure it will be a really good game.”

Bower hinted towards changes ahead of the fixture, which may mean a return to action for former Halifax captain Danny Lowe, who missed the Woking fixture with a head injury.

Another of the Lions’ former Halifax contingent Ryan Toulson added: “We’ve got to make sure we prepare ourselves right for the local derby on Tuesday night.

“I obviously know what Neil is like and he will be bringing them here to win. It will be a tough game.”
