Lions prepare for FA Cup First Round

Guiseley face Barrow in the First Round Proper of the FA Cup at Nethermoor Park this Saturday, hoping to progress to the Second Round for the first time in the club’s history.

The Lions overcame Vauxhall Motors at home last Saturday courtesy of a last-minute winner from Captain Mark Bower, while on Tuesday at Droylsden they came from a goal down to win 3-1 thanks to a Nicky Boshell strike and a quick-fire double from James Walshaw.

Bower said of the fixture: “We’re looking forward to it, they’re bringing a few fans so there should be a good atmosphere. We’ll go in as underdogs but we fancy our chances, especially against a team who will come out and play against us.

“We’ve had quite a few teams down here who sit back behind the ball and just let us come on to them, which can get a bit frustrating at times, so hopefully it’ll be a good game where both teams have a good go at each other.

“We’ve got enough quality to spring a little shock and win.”

Guiseley will be hoping for a repeat result of the last time they faced Barrow, when they won 3-2 at Holker Street in the FA Trophy during the 2010-2011 season thanks to goals from Joe O’Neill, James Walshaw and Danny Boshell.

Barrow, who currently lie 17th in the Blue Square Bet Premier, go into the game on form having gone unbeaten throughout the whole of October, gaining three wins and two draws.
