The Lions needed extra time to beat Ossett Town in the West Riding County Cup, with a brace from Craig Hobson and a Danny Boshell strike securing progression, having dominated much of the possession but failed to convert the advantage.
Manager Mark Bower chose to give a run out to some of his squad and fringe players against an Ossett Town side who ply their trade two divisions below Guiseley.
Thomas Taylor in the Ossett goal did well to keep the ball out under pressure from Michael Potts early on and Gavin Rothery zipped a shot just the wrong side of the upright.
Ossett’s best chance of the half fell to James Eyles who beat two home defenders only to see his shot on target beaten away by Steve Dickinson.
With the game crying out for a goal Shaun Connor nearly obliged on the restart when his clearance from Jameel Ible’s cross sailed just over his own bar.
Danny Forrest, who had replaced Zack Dale at half-time, brought a good save from Taylor down at the near post and Hobson’s shot across goal flew just wide.
The introduction of Danny Boshell in place of Louie Swain on 67 minutes proved instrumental in securing the Lions eventual victory in extra time after neither side had been able to break the deadlock during the ninety.
The first goal came after 108 minutes when Ible fed Ryan Williams down the right and his cross was converted with consummate ease by Hobson.
As the visitors visibly tired Boshell curled in the second seven minutes later having been set up by Forrest and Potts.
Hobson completed the scoring three minutes later taking a pass from Boshell before drilling a shot past Taylor to secure a home quarter final in mid-December against Selby Town, who beat Liversedge 3-2 at Quaker Lane this evening.
