Lions left to rue defensive lapse

Despite Guiseley enjoying plenty of possession, a goal from David Hilbert handed Tamworth the points at the Lamb Ground this afternoon, which puts the teams level on points with Tamworth having played two games more.

Oli Johnson’s pullback after ten minutes saw Nicky Boshell fire over, before the already depleted Lions suffered a further setback as Andy Holdsworth pulled up with what looked like a hamstring injury on 2o minutes to be replaced by Shane Killock.

The decisive moment came a minute later as the Lambs forced a corner in their first serious attack and, although the ball was initially cleared, as the ball was played back in keeper Steven Drench and his defenders allowed Hilbert to convert the easiest of finishes.

Home keeper David Belshaw was down at the near post to save Jake Lawlor’s header as the visitors continued to enjoy the greater possession with Nicky Boshell and Alex Johnson also threatening Belshaw’s goal soon after.

John Adams took the ball off Oli Johnson’s toes just prior to the break before SDrench made a terrific save to deny Brendon Daniels.

As the Lions mounted a concerted effort on the restart, Alex Johnson was just short of Nicky Boshell’s cross and Gavin Rothery’s shot was only just over the angle.

Tamworth created a couple of chances as the visitors sought to level matters, with Danny Ellis and Killock going close with headers while Oli Johnson and Nicky Boshell brought good saves from Belshaw. However, Mark Bower’s men were unable to find the equaliser that would have denied Tamworth a 10th consecutive win in the Vanarama Conference North.
