Guiseley recorded their fourth win in five games, wins in which they have also kept clean sheets, as goals from Gavin Rothery and Lee Ellington saw off a strong challenge from new boys Colwyn Bay in an entertaining game at sunny Nethermoor.

Lacking striker Rob Hopley, the visitors could have been ahead midway through the first half but for Steve Drench’s point-blank save from Daniel Meadowcroft’s header, the subsequent follow up being cleared off the line by Dave Merris.

The home side started with the same line up that humbled Blyth in midweek, but their slick passing and movement lacked a finishing touch until a Drench clearance found Lee Ellington. He got the better of Rodney McDonald and fed Rothery, who drifted across the 18-yard line before firing beyond Christopher Sanna on 38 minutes.

A slick move down the left by Bay ended with Daniel Lloyd-McGoldrick putting one just past the post, and after Danny Ellis cleared the home lines Sanna made  two good stops from Rothery and Burns but was powerless to prevent Ellington wrapping it up as he fired home from close range after Forrest’s effort from Burns’s corner had been blocked.

Manager Steve Kittrick said after the game:  “I think we played excellently in the first half but they competed with us throughout and we had to work hard to get an opening for that first goal.’

Second half I thought they came at us a little bit and after 20mins I wasn’t happy with our midfield, I had to have words but we got it sorted out and then managed to get the second goal. After that second goal the game was never in any doubt
