Guiseley went down to a single goal defeat in their final pre-season game against old rivals Farsley at Throstle Nest this afternoon.
With two trialists – Jake Scott and Michael Potts – in the starting line up the Lions were the first to threaten with Wayne Brooksby finishing a delightful move by firing just wide. The home side’s first opportunity fell to former Guiseley striker Lee Ellington who took advantage of a ball over Jameel Ible who did well to recover and deny Ellington with a timely intervention. Ellington had two further opportunities but both came to nought.
With wholesale substitutes at half-time Craig Hobson came closest to giving the visitors the lead but Ben Higginson managed to tip his effort over the bar before the same player converted Phil Marsh’s cross only for an offside flag to deny him. The Lions were eventually undone on 79 minutes when Ellington got in behind the visitors defence to have his shot parried by Steven Drench, however Aiden Savory was on hand to tap home the loose ball.
Despite upping the ante in trying to square matters the Lions were left wanting and will have to deliver a far better performance than this next Saturday when Solihull Moors open the Skrill North season at Nethermoor.
