Lions Boost Strike Force With Greaves

We are delighted to announce the signing of striker Jerome Greaves after a successful trial spell with the club.

Guiseley AFC have added 6ft 4in tall striker Jerome Greaves to their squad on the eve of the new season after he impressed in pre-season games, writes Rachel O’Connor.

The 19 year-old was released by Rotherham United in July after having loan spells at Matlock Town and Farsley Celtic last season, when he notched up 18 games in National League North.

The Pontefract-born player joined Rotherham United to play in their Under-18 side and was a shining light in their Academy with his goalscoring feats.

He was rewarded for his performances with a two year professional deal in October 2020, signing on the same day as former Guiseley loanees Jake Hull and Jacob Gratton.

Whilst with Rotherham he played for the first team in a number of pre-season games and also in a number of games in the EFL Trophy.

Greaves played as a triallist for Guiseley in pre-season and scored in the win at Bradford (Park Avenue).

His efforts in the pre-season games impressed the new Guiseley management team of Danny Ellis and Danny Forrest enough for them to sign him up for the new season in the Pitching In Northern Premier League.

He is available for tomorrow’s home game against Marine which kicks-off at 3pm.

Greaves has some experience of the Pitching In League having played in it in his loan spell with Matlock.

He said: “It is a tough league but I think our management team have pulled a good squad together. We have experienced players like Jake Cassidy, Spencer Harris and Jameel Ible but also some very good young players.

“When Danny Ellis got in contact with me I was really interested in the project he put before me. With the signings they have made we are looking to go straight back up. The gaffer showed interest in me and when someone believes in you you want to go and play for them.”

Of joining Guiseley Greaves said: “The coaches and all the players have made me feel really welcome and I am really looking forward to Saturday. It is a good group and we should really be pushing on and the target should be to go straight back up.”

Jerome’s home, away and training kits are all available to sponsor.

Join Jerome at Nethermoor for the 2022/23 campaign with a season ticket, available to order online now here.
