Guiseley maintained their position at the top of the Conference North and secured a maximum six point haul from the festive period in the process with James Walshaw’s 51st minute effort proving the difference between the two sides at Ewen Fields.
In a subdued first half the Lions had the greater share of possession but couldn’t make the breakthrough, Liam Needham’s header just over the bar being the nearest they came to breaking the deadlock.
Looking a more determined mood after the break the Lions went close as Luke Sharry fired over the angle and then Joe O’Neill threaded a telling ball behind the home defence which Walshaw dinked over Russell Saunders but Michael Taylor did well to get back and clear the ball off the line.
Walshaw had the last laugh though with Luke Sharry’s pinpoint pass down the channel for the striker to slot past the advancing Saunders into the far corner. Hyde had very little to offer up front, substitute Chris Rimmer forcing Steven Drench in to his only meaningful save just after the visitors had taken the lead.
