Under different circumstances this result would have seen both teams in the play off semi-finals but the visitors ground grading issues sees Nuneaton take their place. In the event the Lions wrapped up a remarkable League campaign that has seen them confound the pundits in their first season in the pyramid’s second tier.
James Walshaw’s goals are a major reason why Guiseley have earned a crack at non-leagues top flight and it was he who put the Lions ahead on the stroke of halftime when Simon Baldry’s header came back of the post and the striker was on hand to head home.. This after Eastwood had taken the lead after just four minutes when a deep cross to the far post was headed home by the unmarked Andy Todd.
It took another twenty minutes and several attempts for the home side to level matters with Dave Merris’ free kick finding Luke Sharry and although the midfielders effort was blocked, the ball fell to Baldry who made no mistake from eight yards.
Gavin Rothery went close early in the second period but it was the visitors who created two good openings on the hour mark. The first of which Todd spurned as Steven Drench saved his spot kick and then the Badgers had a goal cancelled out by an offside flag before Adie Hawes converted a towering header to square things up on 67 minutes.
