Will Thornton’s header deep into added on time rescued Guiseley from an embarrassing defeat at the hands of a team who ply their trade in the Northern Premier League.
The Lions were unlucky not to go ahead through their first attack as a Rowan Liburd latched on to a ball over the top and flicked his effort over the on rushing Jack Simms only to see Ben Hudson clear his lines at the very last moment.
Having weathered the early onslaught it was the home side that struck first as Craig Stanley headed home after the ball had come back of the bar from a City corner.
In a lively encounter the Lions were level before the break in fortunate circumstances as Will Hatfield miscued his shot only for the ball to fall to Kaine Felix who delivered it across the six-yard box for Liburd to tap home.
Home centre back Hudson nearly sliced the ball into his own net on two occassions but fortunately for him both went over the Lancaster bar and behind for a Guiseley corner.
Alex Ray Harvey replaced Hatfield on the restart but it had little effect as Tom Kilfin fired across the Lions goal early on before a deflected shot put City back in front once again midway through the half.
With two of the four minutes of added time remaining the visitors were awarded a free kick on the right flank and as it was floated in Thornton was first to get his head to it to set up a replay at Nethermoor this coming Tuesday 27 November (19:45) as a result of which the West Riding County Cup tie at Harrogate Town has been postponed with a new date to be confirmed.
Admission prices have also been reduced for Tuesdays replay to £10 adults, £5 U18’s and Concessions and £1 U11’s. This fixture will be pay at the gate as per normal.
