York City Ladies 1-3 Guiseley AFC Ladies
Guiseley returned to winning ways at York City on Sunday and reclaimed second place in the league table.
Guiseley were unusually subdued in the first half and a lively York City team were often first to the ball. However a rare flash of quality saw Nadine Bates race away down the Guiseley right and her pinpoint cross was clinically finished by Charlotte Proud to give Guiseley a 1-0 lead.
York City continued to press and substitute Megan Bramham levelled the score when her initial shot hit the Guiseley post and she was first to the rebound.
Half-time arrived with the score 1-1 and an acceptance by all the Guiseley players that the level of performance could be significantly improved.
There was an immediate increase in tempo right from the start of the second half and substitute Polly Fildes made a jinking run into the York City penalty area before scoring with a precise finish.
Guiseley continued to press and missed several opportunities which encouraged York City to get back into the game, particularly through their pacy wide players.
Whilst York City had more of the ball they were in the main restricted to shots from distance which were comfortably dealt with by debutant goalkeeper Danni Maslin.
As the game moved into the final 10 minutes York City committed more players to attack and Guiseley forward Tanya Rich was able to use the extra space to expertly chip the ball over the York City goalkeeper to seal a 3-1 win for Guiseley.
Next week sees Guiseley visit Hull City Ladies aiming to avenge their only defeat of the season so far.
