Vixens Reserves get away victory

The Guiseley AFC Vixens reserve team travelled away on Sunday 21st September to face Mansfield Town hoping to build on last week’s cup win.

Guiseley dominated from the kick off and it didn’t take long before they took the lead with Laura Elford scoring a curling shot into the corner from outside the box. After the first goal Mansfield worked hard to get back into the game however the strength of Guiseley was too much as they made it 2-0, captain Jessica Gittings given too much time on the ball and scored a looping strike, leaving the goal keeper no chance.

Guiseley had a lapse in concentration and Mansfield’s Nicola Flood capitalised on their very few chances in the game and tucked away a tidy shot.

The half time break was a chance for both teams to regroup and for Guiseley to refocus on their great start. The second half gave way to a much better and organised Guiseley performance; pressing the ball well and winning everything in the air particularly Laura Elford who had been switched to centre back.

There were a few questionable decisions from the referee for both teams but Guiseley refused to let that spoil their game. Substitute Julia Hogan scored her first with a low shot in to the bottom corner, with her second goal coming from a great passage of play down the left from Kate Rawthone and Emma Spear, before she completed the perfect hat-trick with a sharp shot to the keepers left, nestling into the corner. The second half hat-trick rounded off an overall great team performance, with plenty of positives, leading them into their next league game, a home tie against league leaders Newcastle United LFC on Sunday 5th October,  2pm @ Bracken Edge.

Team:- Deering, Frankland, Topliss (Hogan, 46), Whitt, Speer, Landricombe, Whitford-Stark, Gittings, Rawthorne, Graham, Elford
