Ladies defeat York City

Guiseley 3 York City 2

For the second time in two days the league leaders came to Nethermoor, and the ladies carried on where the men left off sending them home without any points.

Guiseley had the better possession early on, though York looked dangerous as they sought to break quickly. Neither keeper was tested, however, until midway through the first half Bethan Smith was first to a cross to put Guiseley one up. The Guiseley goal then led something of a charmed existence, with York hitting the bar from distance before a post came to the rescue. Before the break Guiseley doubled their advantage when Tanya Rich superbly lobbed the visiting keeper from wide on the right.

Within fifteen minutes of the restart York were level. First a low shot evaded Danni Maslin in Guiseley goal before a penalty was converted. The visitors now looked the more likely to win the game, though failed to carve out any clear cut chances. With around fifteen minutes remaining Tanya Rich robbed a defender on the edge of York’s penalty area, took the ball to the byline, and centred for Bethan Smith to add her second goal of the game. York still had time to hit the woodwork again, but the Lionesses held out for the win.

With four games remaining the ladies sit fourth in the league.
