Guiseley Ladies travelled to Sheffield to play the ‘Blades’ in a crucial game Sunday to be help up on the M1, an accident on the M1 seemed to cause disruption to other games in league with two major accidents. With the ladies arriving with 10 players just over an hour late, there was little time for preparation and the ladies had to kick off in the heat with a player down.
The ladies dominated the game despite being a player short with right winger Sophie Morley still stuck on the disastrous M1, the girls played the type of passing football which has demonstrated their strengths as a team and put early pressure on the home side.
Again with various players out of position with Caroline Cropp and Katie Jesson filling in at left and right back the girls pushed on and eventually found their break through. With the team now with 11 players, a quick release from goalkeeper Erin Boswell to Sophie Morley on the right wing saw the right winger cleverly pick out striker Amy Parker who took advantage of a mistake in the Blades defence to put the Gtown girls 1-0 up.
The Blades struggled to match the away side who continued to pressure the home side up to half time.
HT 0 – 1
The second half continued as the first half finished with the away side still putting the Blades under pressure with the Blades still struggling to hit the target when they did break. Guiseley defended well and kept the ball in midfield which opened up options for the Guiseley strike force of Caroline Hulme and Amy Parker.
With Guiseley now comfortable and seeking a second goal, they played with conviction and started to gamble when options were available. Another quick release from the Guiseley goalkeeper to new American signing Carley Nicholson saw the American neatly lay to ball off to stand in left back Caroline Cropp who sent a perfect ball over to namesake Caroline Hulme who calmly stuck the ball in the back of the net.
Some late pressure from the Blades saw them unable to captivate on their chances with great defensive work, they nearly pulled a goal back from a loose corner which saw Boswell make a fine save along with some key one on one saves. Unfortunately the Blades took advantage in the final minute and caught the Guiseley defence napping and outnumbered which saw them pass the ball into the open net.
Guiseley showed the passing football that they are capable off and saw an outstanding performance in the disrupted conditions and heat!
Player of the match went to Abigail Garland for her persistence and outstanding tracking
