Ellis proud of 400th appearance

Danny Ellis spoke of his pride at making his 400th appearance in a Guiseley shirt as the Lions moved a step closer to the Skrill North play-offs.

Ellis has been an ever-present under a host of managers since arriving at the club in 2005 as one of Neil Parsley’s signings.

He clocked up his 400th appearance at Nethermoor on Saturday and, despite conceding the foul that led to Colwyn Bay’s penalty, it proved a successful afternoon for Mark Bower and his charges as the Lions edged five points clear of Boston United.

Ellis said he was delighted to make it to 400 games for the club and that he was pleased to secure another victory that moves them closer to a play-off spot, despite the Bay penalty.

“I thought I had got a touch on the ball and none of their players were protesting so when the penalty was given I was a bit shocked, but after that we played well,” he told Tom Feaheny.

“It was a tough game for both sides and we struggled to get going but then we knuckled down and showed great  character to come back from a goal down.

“I didn’t actually realise it was my 400th today but as soon as I walked into the ground I was reminded and I am very proud.

“I’ve been here a long time and I am still really enjoying it.”

Victory for the Lions on Monday will ensure the Lions of a play-off spot after a shaky start to their campaign.

Yesterday’s skipper said neither he nor his team-mates will take Workington lightly when they make the trip to Borough Park.

“Looking back across the season the way we have bounced back after the shaky start is really good and we know what is required of us for Monday now,” he added.

“It will be very tough, it’s one of our longest trips and we know they will be up for the fight, so it will be a tough contest for us.”
