We are delighted to announce the signing of striker Edwin Essel on a one month loan deal from Grimsby Town.

The forward, who turns 19 today, has been playing with the Mariners’ academy since U10 level and has worked his way up to the first team.

Paul Hurst added the forward to his squad during the 2021/22 campaign and Edwin made his senior debut in a 4-3 win over Barnet in the Vanarama National League coming on as a substitute in the 80th minute.

In April last year Essel signed his first professional contract and spent the first half of the season on loan with Grimsby Borough before being recalled by his parent club in January earlier this year.

He then helped the Mariners to the quarter finals of the Emirates FA Cup last season before linking up with Cleethorpes Town for another loan move.

Edwin joined the Owls in late March and spent the final month of the season as they finished in 11th place in the Northern Premier League Division One East.
