Goals from Danny Ellis and Kevin Holsgrove cancelled out Danny Newton’s opener as Guiseley completed the double over Leamington on Tuesday.
Leamington began well and went ahead through Newton after just four minutes, a long ball sticking in the patchy Nethermoor turf to allow the former Brackley man to poke home the opener past Steven Drench.
Undeterred, however, the Lions hit back and threatened through the lively Holsgrove, making his first appearance at Nethermoor since arriving back on loan from FC Halifax Town.
He fired over from distance before Ellis powered home an impressive header from inside the area to level the scores 14 minutes in.
The tireless Alex Johnson was next to threaten, shooting wide after forging an opportunity for himself, before Holsgrove grabbed what proved to be the winner three minutes before the break when his left-footed strike took a deflection off a Leamington defender and nestled in the far corner.
With the game finely poised, the second half was a scrappy affair as both teams appeared eager not to be caught on the break.
However, when Newton blazed over from outside the box late on the home fans breathed a sigh of relief, but Mark Bower’s men held on to secure the three points and move up a place to 11th before the visit of Vauxhall Motors on Saturday.
