Adam Boyes gained Guiseley a battling draw at Chester on Bank Holiday Monday – cancelling out John Rooney’s second-half penalty with a late leveller.
The Lions came into the game off the back of two successive defeats at the hands of Aldershot and Gateshead but went in at the break goalless with Chester after an even first half.
However, a third loss in a row was on the cards when Zac Thompson was penalised for a handball in the area – Rooney slotting home the penalty – before substitute Boyes scored his second goal of the season from inside the six-yard box.
It ensures a gritty away point for Bower’s men, who now turn their attentions to Saturday’s clash with Torquay United at The Launa Windows Stadium.
