Bower reign starts with defeat

Caretaker manager Mark Bower saw his reign in charge of the club get off to a defeat, thanks to three second-half goals at York Street.

Bower, who replaced Steve Kittrick as Lions boss in midweek, named himself in the starting line-up and will have been pleased with how his side started, keeping possession and probing well.

However, as was the case all afternoon, there was a limited threat in the final third with the home side having the first effort on goal through Ben Marshall.

Gavin Rothery and Adam Priestley both then had chances for the visitors while Spencer Weir-Daley forced Steven Drench into a good save after a long ball from Boston goalkeeper Ashley Timms.

However, the sides went in goalless at the break, before the Lions’ ill-discipline cost them following the concession of a series of free-kicks outside the box.

Ian Ross floated a delivery into Carl Piergianni who rose and headed well past Drench on the hour to put his side ahead.

Six minutes later, Ross again was provider, crafting a deep cross for Marc Newsham to angle a header into the far corner.

Boston continued to threaten as the visitors struggled to fashion chances and, in the final minute, Newsham made it three – finishing from close range after Drench had denied Ricky Miller.
