Bower eyes Trophy run

After narrowly losing out to Vanarama Conference North leaders Barrow in their last game, the Lions take a break from league duty to face Rushall Olympic in the FA Trophy this weekend.

Saturday’s opponents – managed by Richard Sneekes – currently play in the Northern Premier League Premier Division and come into the game off the back of a 2-1 win against Matlock Town.

After five straight league defeats in October, Rushall have found form this month, winning four of their last six games and losing just once in all competitions.

Guiseley themselves have enjoyed a strong run as well – winning four out of their last five league games – with the one defeat coming last Saturday as a second-half fightback proved in vain against Barrow at Nethermoor.

Manager Mark Bower is eager for his side to take positives from the recent run into this weekend’s Trophy game, adding there may be a number of changes for the fixture.

However, he also warned that his XI will need to be on form if they are to get their Trophy campaign up and running with a win as they seek to emulate their efforts of reaching the final 16 last year before defeat to Aldershot.

“We’ll try go as far as we can, we had a decent run last year and got some good wins, the win at Halifax was one of the highlights of the season,” Bower explained.

“There may be one or two changes in the side but we have enough quality to come in, I expect a thorough and professional performance.

“If we go about it the way we have the last five games, we have every chance of going through.”
