Blue Square awards for February

GATESHEAD BOSS BOGIE NAMED FEBRUARY’S HEED MAN

Ian Bogie from Gateshead has been named the Blue Square Bet Premier ‘manager of the month’ for February. The Heed are firmly in the running for a play-off place after a fantastic month in which they won all five of their league matches. Four of those fixtures were away from home including an incredible 7-2 victory at high-flying Wrexham. They also won at Kettering Town and Rushden & Diamonds. Bogie also led his team a step closer to Wembley with progression to the FA Trophy semi-finals where they will face local rivals Darlington.

The Blue Square Bet North ‘manager of the month’ for February is Andy Sinton from AFC Telford United. Sinton’s side won all three of their league fixtures during the month to stay in contention for promotion. They beat two of their close rivals at the top of the table – with a 1-0 win away at Boston and a 2-1 home victory over odds-on title favourites Alfreton Town. They started the month with a 1-0 win at Workington.

The Blue Square Bet South ‘manager of the month’ for February is Garry Hill from Woking. Hill took over at Kingfield in late January ahead of a difficult league fixture at Braintree Town which ended in a 2-0 defeat. February got underway with home wins over Thurrock and St Albans City and The Cards went from strength to strength registering victories over Bishop’s Stortford, Staines Town, Maidenhead United and Lewes. Six wins in six games during the month and a formidable defensive record of no goals conceded in over 500 minutes of league football. March got underway in great fashion too as Ebbsfleet were roundly beaten in midweek to move the Surrey club up to sixth.

SHAW FIRES HIS WAY TO FEBRUARY PLAYER AWARD AND A GATESHEAD DOUBLE

Gateshead’s Jon Shaw has been named the Blue Square Bet Premier ‘player of the month’ for February. The striker contributed to his team’s fantastic month with six goals in five league matches including a hat-trick in the stunning 7-2 win at Wrexham. Shaw’s award makes it a February double for The Heed, with manager Ian Bogie taking the managerial equivalent for the period.

The Blue Square Bet North ‘player of the month’ for February is Phil Marsh from Stalybridge Celtic. It’s Marsh’s second award of the season after topping the November vote. February saw the striker score three goals in four starts for his club as they consolidated their mid-table position in the division with only one defeat in six games. Marsh playing himself back into the starting line-up after coming off the bench in the first three matches of the period.

The Blue Square Bet South ‘player of the month’ for February is Kieran Murtagh from Woking. The Wycombe Wanderers midfielder joined The Cards on loan at the start of the month and made an immediate impact at Kingfield. Murtagh contributed to the club’s incredible unbeaten run with four goals during the period as they won all six of their league matches. The award makes it a Woking double in February as boss Garry Hill scoops the managerial honours. Another shrewd move from Hill was to extend Murtagh’s spell in Surrey in the hope his rich vein of form continues to fire them up the table.
