A trialist’s second half equaliser ensured Guiseley drew 1-1 in the blistering Golcar United heat, writes David Bridson.
The Northern Counties East Premier Division side, who defeated Stocksbridge Park Steels just 24 hours earlier, took a 38th minute lead as a trailist of their own slotted home from the edge of the box.
The hosts caused Guiseley problems straight away with a shot blocked in the opening seconds before another effort flew over the bar in the tenth minute.
Joe Cracknell made a decent stop from a Golcar cross eight minutes later before the hosts fired over the bar midway through the first half.
Will Longbottom saw two strikes blocked within the space of sixty seconds as Guiseley grew into the game.
A superb leaping save tipped Trialist A’s sizzling strike over the bar just moments later. Ollie Brown’s attempt slid wide on the half hour mark.
Taylor Bowen forced two Golcar defenders to scramble his shot clear three minutes later.
The Lions were warned as a Golcar cross fizzed across the box but was unable to find an attacker in the 37th minute. The strike into the left hand corner shortly after gave the home side the lead.
With Lebrun Mbeka and Trialist C introduced in place of Jordan Thewlis and Trilaist A for the second half Guiseley immediately pushed for a leveller.
Bowen’s early effort was well saved by the home goalkeeper. Trialist C struck the side netting in the 53rd minute.
A Golcar strike slipped wide on the hour mark as the hosts sought to double their advantage.
Jake Lawlor’s fierce volley soared wide in the 67th minute.
Trialist C calmly placed an equaliser past the resolute home defence in the 72nd minute following Trialist D’s blocked shot.
Trialist C nearly provided an assist as his cross marginally missed Trialist D eleven minutes from time.
Joao Silva shot agonisingly wide despite being clean through on goal in the 82nd minute.
A late midfield battle failed to provide an advantage for either team.
Guiseley next take on a Leeds United X1 at Nethermoor on Saturday 19th July with a 3pm kick-off.
