25/26 Match Preview: Warrington Rylands

The Lions return to Nethermoor on Tuesday night, for the first of two home games in five days, with a clash against Warrington Rylands, writes Adam Bridson.

Match sponsored by: Chris Wright Baildon Ltd

“The only thing you want from a cup game is to get through and we have done that. On the whole we were definitely good value for it, we should have been comfortably in front at half time with the chances we missed.”

“Warrington Rylands are a really good side who are going well. We know it will be tough, we will do our homework but I think they will be a touch stronger than when we met in the FA Cup with a couple of personnel back involved. We know it will be difficult, we had two good battles with them last season that finished in draws, they will be one of the teams that will be right up there at the end of the season.

“We have two home games now, we just seem to be away all the time, so I really am looking forward to getting a couple of home games under out belt.”

Mark Bower spoke to Colin Robertson following Saturday’s 4-2 win at Bridlington Town and reflected on the victory whilst also looking ahead to Tuesday night’s clash with Warrington Rylands.

Team News

Bower was boosted by the availability of Harrison Hopper who returned from injury to play the last 10 minutes in Saturday’s Isuzu FA Trophy win.

Ollie Brown was withdrawn 53 minutes into the game after taking a whack on his shoulder, the full back will be a injury concern for Tuesday night.

John Lufudu and Sam Bentley both sat out the contest having picked up injuries in training last week.

Liam Ridehalgh is working his way back to full fitness and Jay Buchan will be available for selection having missed the last three games through suspension.

The Opposition

Warrington Rylands finished in 11th last season after a slow start to the campaign saw them miss out on a play off spot.

They currently occupy the last play off place having four more points than the Lions but have only won one game since August. They have been hard to beat though, only tasting defeat once in the league at leaders Lancaster last month.

Neil Reynolds’ men were dumped out of the Isuzu FA Trophy and Emirates FA Cup at the the first time of asking. A 2-1 defeat at Dunston ended their hopes of a Trophy run and the Lions cut short their Cup hopes too with a 4-1 win at Gorsey Lane in August.

The spine of their team includes goalkeeper Luke Pilling, veteran Dean Furman, midfielders Ben Hardcastle and captain James Neild, and forwards Alex Kiwomya and George Waring.

Previous Meetings

The two sides met at Gorsey Lane jsut six weeks ago and Mark Bower’s men came on top 4-1 in the Emirates FA Cup.

Amir Berchil, Jordan Thewlis and a Will Longbottom brace saw Rylands’ unbeaten start to the season come to an end.

That was just the second win for the Lions over Rylands with three other previous contests ending in draws with Warrington coming out on top twice.
