Jordan Thewlis scored a first half hat-trick as the Lions ran riot against a ten-man Hebburn Town side, writes Joe Priestley.
Amir Berchil thought he’d given Guiseley an early lead, but his shot was handled on the line by Hebburn skipper Aidan Heywood three minutes in to the game. The offender received a red card for his troubles and Jordan Thewlis netted the resulting penalty to give the Lions a lead after just six minutes.
It took Thewlis just two more minutes to grab his second of the game after a fumble by the Hebburn backline gave him a clear sight of goal and the opportunity to slot home a tidy finish. Not satisfied with a brace, the striker then coolly netted a third in the eighteenth minute either side of two close efforts from Joao Silva that fell narrowly wide of the target.
Further chances fell to Jay Buchan and Connor Ferguson as the Lions piled on the pressure as the half went on, but Mark Bower’s side had to settle at three as a super half came to a close.
The euphoria continued in the second half, when John Lufudu was tripped in the box, allowing Taylor Bowen to step up and score his first goal as a Guiseley player and his sides fourth of the evening.
Silva and Ferguson both had chances as the Lions sustained their pressure but neither were able to beat Harrison Bond as Hebburn reverted to damage limitation and a tight defensive unit.
The visitors had a chance themselves when Matthew Elsdon forced a save out of Joe Cracknell, but the Lions continued to dominate proceedings as the game closed out at 4-0.
Guiseley will now look to continue this good form and move closer to the top of the league when they host Rushall Olympic at Nethermoor on Saturday.
