Following a superb away victory in midweek, the Lions are looking to follow that up as they again visit Greater Manchester, this time to take on FC United of Manchester, writes Scott Kelly.
“IN THE FIRST HALF WE WERE IRRESISTIBLE. WE LOOKED SO DANGEROUS AND SHOWED REALLY GOOD QUALITY. THE ONLY DOWNSIDE IS THAT WE WERE ONLY 2-0 UP. WE SHOULD HAVE BEEN THREE OR FOUR UP”.
Mark Bower was full of praise for the Lions first half performance on Tuesday at Hyde United, with superb finishes from Joao Silva and John Lufudu meaning the Lions secured a 2-0 victory and their first on the road this campaign.
Team News
The game is likely to come too soon for Liam Ridehalgh and Lucas Odunston, with the full back pair missing out.
Will Longbottom and Jack Emmett are edging closer to a return and could feature on Saturday.
Jordan Thewlis was omitted from the side on Tuesday night, and it remains unclear if any injury sustained will rule him out of Saturday’s game.
The Opposition
Following Hednesford Town’s heavy 3-0 defeat to Prescot Cables on Tuesday night, FC United go into this weekend’s round of matches with the only 100% record in the Northern Premier League.
2-0 victories over Leek Town and Lancaster preceded a 3-1 home win over Whitby Town on Tuesday evening, with ex-Premier League players Adam Le Fondre and Andre Wisdom on the scoresheet. 39 in December, Le Fondre already has two goals this campaign after 16 goals during the 24/25 campaign and is definitely the one to watch.
Likewise, Jay Fitzmartin. The winger has three for the campaign after scoring in every league game so far. The squad also includes Sithole brothers Ronald and Gez, midfielder Matty Grivosti and long-serving club captain Charlie Ennis. Ennis had a brief spell with Guiseley back in 2013.
Previous Meetings
Guiseley have never won on this ground. They drew here 1-1 back in April, with John Lufudu putting the Lions in front.
That game ended a run of three straight defeats in this part of Manchester. The only away victory for Guiseley against this opposition was back in 2009 when they were playing at Bury FC’s Gigg Lane.
