It’s time for some bank holiday action at Nethermoor, with Stocksbridge Park Steels visiting for the first time in over 15 year, writes Scott Kelly.
“Where we were ruthless on Tuesday night we completely lacked. The goalkeeper barely had a save to make. Finding that consistency is key and we completely lacked that today”
Mark Bower speaking after the 2-0 defeat to FC United of Manchester on Saturday.
Team News
Jordan Thewlis and Jack Emmett appeared from the bench on Saturday, with Emmett playing his first minutes of the season. Mark Bower confirmed post-match that Emmett only trained once during the week so perhaps expect him to play a small part again on Monday.
No sign of Lucas Odunston and Liam Ridehalgh on Saturday and they are expected to miss out again for this one.
The Opposition
Stocksbridge are in their first season at this level since 2014 and are still waiting for their first victory of the season.
Two defeats and two draws means only Workington sit below them in the table having also scored just once in those four games. Steels go into this clash after a hard fought 0-0 draw with Warrington Rylands on Saturday.
Their current playing squad includes former Lions Oliwier Grzelak, with 21-year-old defender Jaz Goundry joining the club recently on loan from Sherwood Colliery. Current Lion Joao Silva is a former Steels player after featuring for them last season on loan from Farsley Celtic.
Their gaffer is Ian Richards, who also played for the club, and has managed Steels since 2021. Their club captain is Kurtis Turner.
Previous Meetings
The Lions have faced the Steels five times in recent history, with the most recent game coming way back in 2010. Guiseley did the double, winning 4-2 back in March 2010 in Sheffield and 3-1 at Nethermoor the month prior.
