The Lions reacted in style to opening day disappointment with a thumping 4-0 win over Hebburn Town.

Jordan Thewlis’ 18 minute hat trick and an early red card for Town captain Aiden Heywood settled the contest.

Taylor Bowen added to the scoreline with his first goal for the club in the second half.

Team News

Mark Bower made two changes on Tuesday night, Joao Silva and Jay Buchan both made their first starts for the club.

Jack Emmett, Liam Ridehalgh and Lucas Odunston sat the game out through injury with Will Longbottom also missing.

Taylor Bowen was introduced at half-time and struck home his opening chance from the spot and could push for a start on Saturday.

In his post match interview on Tuesday night Bower indicated that Emmett was the closest to a return to action.

The Opposition

Rushall Olympic were relegated from the National League North at the end of last season but they haven’t let that disappointment linger.

They have started with a home 1-1 draw at home to Warrington Rylands and a 3-0 away win on Tuesday at Leek Town.

Rushall won all but one of their pre-season friendlies with victories over Gornal, Birmingham City U21s, Inkberrow, Sporting Khalsa, Stafford Rangers, Long Eaton and Chasetown. They also drew 2-2 with Aston Villa U21s in their successful preparation for the 2025/26 season.

Previous Meetings

We have met the Pics on two previous occasions over 10 years ago in cup competition.

In the FA Trophy 3rd Round Qualifying back in November 2014 the sides drew 0-0 at Nethermoor and met in a replay on the following Tuesday night at Rushall’s Dales Lane home.

Jake Lawlor and Gavin Rothery were on the scoresheet in a 2-1 replay win with the Lions going on to face Chorley in the first round.
