25/26 Emirates FA Cup On The Road: Warrington Rylands

The league is put on hold as the Lions look to advance in the Emirates FA Cup, with Warrington Rylands between them and a place in the second round qualifying, writes Scott Kelly.

“(It was a) poor goal to concede. It looked a bit like a basketball game. We huffed and puffed but made poor decisions in the final third”.

Boss Mark Bower reacts following last Saturday’s 1-1 draw at home to Stocksbridge Park Steels.

Team News

Mark Bower confirmed post-match that Will Longbottom should be fit for this weekend’s game, with Lucas Odunston not far behind.

Jack Emmett once again came off the bench and is looking more match fit and will be pushing for a start alongside Jordan Thewlis and Taylor Bowen. Lewis Knight has a groin issue, and it remains to be seen if he will be fit.

Bower confirmed that Lebrun Mbeka was replaced on Saturday due to a hamstring issue, but it was purely precautionary and should be fit. Jamie Spencer could be ready to step in at centre-back if necessary.

The Opposition

The Blues are enjoying an unbeaten start to their campaign so far, with three wins and three draws from their opening six matches and they sit third, with the two above them, Rushall and FC United the only other sides to enjoy unbeaten starts.

They have never had a good FA Cup run; in fact their best ever run was to the 3rd qualifying Round last season.

The spine of their team includes goalkeeper Luke Pilling, veteran Dean Furman, midfielders Ben Hardcastle and captain James Neild, and forwards Alex Kiwomya and George Waring.

Previous Meetings

The last two encounters have been drawn, including the meeting on 5th April where Adriano Moke put the side in an early but were pegged back late on.

Guiseley have actually only won once in the six meetings between the sides, a 1-0 victory in Cheshire in November 2023 with Gabriel Johnson getting the winner.
