Previous Meetings

Saturday will be the first time we have clashed with the newly promoted side.

The Lions’ Form Book

The Lions go into the game with a defeat and a draw in the last two fixtures since a win over Matlock Town just over a week ago.

A host of new players have arrived including the return of Lebrun Mbeka on loan from Boston United.

A Look At Warrington Rylands

Rylands have made a good start to the season following their promotion last time out and currently occupy 6th place in the table with 17 points from 11 games.

They are on their second manager of the campaign with Jody Banim in the hotseat following the departure of Dave McNabb.

They have five wins, two draws and four losses so far this campaign and have netted nine goals in their last three games including one against Stafford Rangers in a 1-1 draw on Saturday.

Former Lion Josh Langley could make the trip to Nethermoor, the centre back arrived on loan from AFC Fylde for the last few months of the 2018-19 season.

A Look At The Lions

Danny Ellis added three new faces to the squad for Tuesday night’s trip to The Northolme with one very familiar to Lions fans.

Joe Ackroyd arrived on loan from Barnsley and started the draw alongside returning utlitity player Lebrun Mbeka who has also signed a temporary switch to Nethermoor from Boston United. Kwame Boateng who is also in his second spell with the club was named on the bench.

Since our last home game winger Nicky Walker joined the club from Whitby Town and could be in line to make his home debut on Saturday.

Mohammad Qasim netted his first goal for the club to break the deadlock on Tuesday night and will be looking to add more to his tally.

Luke Dean, John Johnston, Andy Kellett. Danny Ellis, George Smith and Spencer Harris all missed the trip through injury.

What Are They Saying?

Speaking after Tuesday night’s 1-1 draw at Gainsborough Danny Ellis said: “I thought Gainsborough had a real purpose to their game and were very brave at times with their full backs pushing on. I thought we took a while to get going, first half we weathered it a little bit and perhaps gave them too much respect in terms of putting our stamp on the game but I thought we defended pretty well. I think a point is a great result but both teams had chances, we had some great chances at the end but a point is a fair result if I am 100% honest.”

“He has hit the post twice and is a real threat, he makes some great runs and took his goal really well. I am pleased for Mohammad tonight, he deserved that goal.”

“Joe Ackroyd is young and energetic, you can see he covered every blade of grass who I thought was excellent. Lebrun, who everyone knows, he was in there tonight and did really well. We have also got Kwame back, I was with him at Farsley and know everything about him, he is a great addition for us and we are getting there. The squad is getting there but we still have a few injuries which doesn’t help – there is five now and they are all key players for us, it’s frustrating.”

“I am a bit injured as well after three games in seven days but I hope to be training next week.”

“You can see the way the results are, most leagues have a top two or three teams but this league is very open and the results suggest that.”

“We will do our homework on Warrington Rylands and we look forward to it.”
