Previous Meetings

It will be our first clash with The Mariners since April 2010 when the Merseyside based side ran out 2-0 winners in LS20 in our penultimate home game of a title winning campaign. Little did anyone inside Nethermoor that afternoon know the impact Marine would have on the title race!

Marine held Boston to a 0-0 draw and James Walshaw’s double in a 2-0 win over Ashton United handed the title to The Lions.

The Lions’ Form Book

The Lions go into the game with five wins out of eight friendlies with a fresh new squad and management team who are looking to make their mark at Nethermoor.

Danny Ellis’ side are unbeaten in three home games with York City, Darlington and Fleetwood Town U23s all tasting defeat in friendly matches.

The Lions were also unbeaten in the final two home games of the 2021/22 campaign.

A Look At Marine

Marine won the play offs to secure their place back in the Pitching In Northern Premier League Premier Division after two cut short campaigns in the West Division.

Neil Young signed Mark Howarth on his release from Nethermoor and the midfielder is still on the books with Andy Hollins also moving to the North West in the summer.

The Mariners are full of momentum having only been on the losing side in competitive matches four times this calendar year.

A Look At The Lions

The Lions were without club captain George Smith, Andy Kellett, Nat Crofts and Donald Chimalilo for Saturday’s 1-0 win over Fleetwood Town U23s.

Danny Ellis will be back available for selection though after missing the final friendly due to a pre-arranged wedding.

Spencer Harris has also recovered from injury to feature in the wins over Bradford (Park Avenue) and Fleetwood Town U23s.

Ellis and Forrest had three trialists on show in Saturday’s friendly too.

What Are They Saying?

Speaking after Saturday’s 1-0 win Danny Forrest said “I thought it was a positive way to end pre-season with a decent performance. Me being me I am always going to want more and I know that Danny, Martin and Karl are the same, we are always going to demand more. I would have liked to have seen us move it a bit quicker and be a bit more potent in the final third but I am not going to complain too much as the lads have been great over the last five weeks, I am really happy going into the season with how we are shaping up.”

“We are carrying a few niggles but nothing too sinister, we are just trying to look after a few and get a clean bill of health for next week. We have seen that bit of depth when you have three or four stepping in there who have performed and done well. We have learnt a lot about some of them who have stepped into the team and that is good.”

“We hope to be at full strength, there is nothing too sinister injury wise but we made the decision over the week to make sure that we can work on stuff with a full bill of health and hopefully we will be at full strength.”

“There is a few little irons in the fire, there was still a couple of trialists on the teamsheet which we have been really happy with. Push will come to shove over the next few days and these niggles have shown we need those extra bodies.”

“I was pretty pleased, the second half we took around 10-15 to get going but once we did we came on strong towards the end of the game and were quite comfortable which is really pleasing.”

“I think they are all going to be tough, we have just got to make it about ourselves. Going into the start of the season there is always that edge to it, it is business and we are playing for points. The supporters will be a bit more into it too with a bit more fire in their bellies like ours!”

“Being involved at the Supporters’ Club BBQ and speaking to a few on a matchday it means a lot to us, it is helping us a lot. We are not going to get everything right and I know exactly what the Guiseley supporters are like and that was a massive attraction to come and be a part of it again. We have just said one in all in and the supporters are a massive part of that, I am glad the spirits are high we just want to keep that going and we will always do our best on behalf of this club.”

“We haven’t set any targets really, it is the cliché but game by game we want to win. The staff are winners, we think we have got players who are of the same mentality so we will go and attack every game and do what we can. We are not naive to think that we have made it or done anything yet, it is just the start, we will take it game by game and see what happens.”

Tickets for the game with Marine can be purchased at the turnstiles on the day with cash payment only or online in advance here. Don’t forget to pick up a matchday programme for just £3, it is packed full with exclusive content with what you will find inside here.
