Young Lions on the up

The Academy side gave a good account of themselves in last night’s FA Youth Cup Second Qualifying Round against a bigger and older Brighouse Town side who scored two goals early on and then had keeper Richard Roberts to thank for denying the Lions any chance of reducing the deficit.

Zack Dale and Macaulay Parkinson were added to the Academy team squad and both made telling contributions alongside Ben’s Walker and Whitfield.

Town went into a two-goal lead early on, seemingly catching the young Lions cold, but after that the game was very even with both sides playing the ball about to good effect. Dale came closest to pulling one back but was denied by Roberts on two occasions, the first being a save at the foot of the post and catching the striker’s looping header under the bar for the second.

At this early stage of the season the Academy is still very much a work-in-progess but if this display is anything to go by the future looks very bright indeed.
