Showing five changes from the team that defeated open age men’s team Burley Trojans in the Wharfedale FA Challenge Cup Guiseley Academy pulled off a good 2-0 win at York City, writes Rachel O’Connor.
The Academy’s class told in the end in a tough game against Trojans at Burley Rec.
The young lads took quite a buffeting at times but held strong to complete the win against an in-form Craven League side.
Their profligacy in front of goal prevented a bigger win as they created chance after chance but failed to find the target, even with a penalty.
Their next game was away to York City and in this National League U-19 Alliance game they came home with a 2-0 win.
This upturn in form has coincided with the return of centre-back Freddie Westfall, who has been out of the side for almost a year.
His influence as captain has been missed since a neck injury sustained in a car accident last November has ruled him out.
A host of yellow cards was shown in this game but Guiseley emerged with the points thanks to two goals from Lucas Alexander.
